Rock Creek Farmhouse

This new farm residence is located just down the road from Rock Creek, Ohio. The home features an Eastern White Pine timber-framework very much in the spirit and pattern of the vernacular English threshing barns of the early 19th century Ohio Western Reserve. We did deviate slightly from that tradition, however in the “great room” end of the house. The central cross-frame is adorned with a book-matched pair of cherry cruck blades placed as braces. This draws from an earlier tradition of using naturally curved timber in English & Welsh frames, and is reminiscent of the great 14th century tithe barns of England.
