Riverbend Sugarhouse

WINTER & EARLY SPRING 2024

This sugarhouse is the eleventh sugarhouse framework I’ve designed, joined, and raised over the past 23 years. It’s a modest 12’0 x 16’0 framework with a 5’0 porch wrapping the entire perimeter. The main frame (including the cupola) is eastern white pine and the porch frame is Scots pine. The main frame features a 12’0 x 8’0 loft in one half. The porch frame is integral to the main frame. Because of site restrictions (not easily accessible with large equipment/vehicles), the clients opted for a foundation/deck constructed of wolmanized wood rather than concrete and masonry. The sugarhouse sits near a bend in the headwaters of the Chagrin River, just downstream of Bass Lake near Chardon, Ohio.
