Three Little Bird’s Porch
Framed in beautiful No.1 Dense FOHC Douglas-fir and a single timber of reclaimed southern yellow pine, this porch framework replaced an existing conventionally framed porch on this c. early 80’s home. The 15’0 x 18’0 frame features a cantilevered and faceted prow that gives way to views of the residence’s private lake. The unique design of the new porch combined with all the limiting parameters of the existing home’s fenestration, resulted in a lot of head scratching in order to make it all fit. The solitary southern yellow pine timber was re-milled from a salvaged timber rescued from the razed Otis Elevator Company building that once stood in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. That timber perches above the doors that open onto the porch from the master-bedroom and features a carving of three little birds that give nod to the three daughters of the client’s family.
