Winding Brook Sugarhouse c.2017

The timber-framework for this 20’0 x 42’0 sugarhouse is predominantly eastern white pine with bits of red oak, Norway spruce, Scots pine, and Douglas-fir.  The sugarhouse features a 20’0 x 14’0 loft accessible via a ship’s ladder staircase as well as a 5’0 x 12’0 cupola for steam ventilation.  The roof framing is patterned after Germanic Liegender-stuhl trusses and the solitary interior post at the foot of the loft stairs is carved in a traditional Romanian pattern.
