Gamekeeper’s Carriage Barn c.2019

This project was a return to a previous client of both timber-work and furniture.  The saltbox style frame is joined in primarily eastern white pine, but also a fair amount of eastern hemlock and one single post in hand-hewn yellow-poplar that was harvested from the clearing of the building site.

The frame measures 27’0 x 45’0 and has a loft above one of three bays.  The building is fully insulated and will house classic cars and a small hobby woodshop.  The frame pattern incorporates two Germanic style trusses known as Liegander-stuhl, both of which support a structural ridge timber with a king-post.  This frame arrangement allowed a clear-span of about 20′ at the two interior cross-frames.
